While it is always important to plan for necessary food, water, fuel, and other things, we need to think about alternative ways to cook that food if we don't have our regular power supply. It's surprising how much fuel is required for long-term cooking! A single 20-pound propane tank may only last a week. But if it's during the winter and you also need to heat your home, it may only last a couple of days.
This class reviewed several options that should be considered in preparing for such an event. The handout gives details, including the pros and cons of those options.
It's super important to prepare to cook with proper ventilation and not use fuels that can produce carbon monoxide and cause terrible problems if used indoors. This class was only a partial study of everything needed, but it is a good starting point. We encourage you to take seriously the necessary means to provide options for cooking for both a short-term emergency and a long-term disaster.
