Food Storage Calculator

Food Storage Calculator

The Sparks Nevada East Stake Presidency has stated that, at a minimum, they want every family to have a 3-Month Supply of Food. The calculator below makes it easy to figure out what you need to get and how much it will cost. Each Ward will track how many families in their Ward are reaching this goal. Don't forget things like Water, Fuel, Cash, Medicine, and other preparedness items, as they are also important.

The calculator uses the information from the Church on how many items are needed PER MONTH for each person (please see the BYU PDF if required). Once you input the Number of Months (3) and subtract the current amount you already have, it will tell you how many you need to obtain. If you want to do more than three months, change that number. Please print and fill out this form from the Reno Home Storage Center when you go to purchase your items. They only take Debit or Credit Cards, no cash or checks. They can be reached at 775-856-2245 or emailed HERE to make sure they have what you need as they sometimes run out.

Here is another Food Calculator on another website that may help you.

Below the Calendar is a suggested staggered Calendar where we outline a monthly trip to the Home Storage Center for each Ward to get what they need over this next year. By following the proposed schedule, we won't overwhelm the Home Storage Center all at once. This outline is just a suggestion, as you can add more purchases as desired.

If you would like Monthly Reminders of what you should buy each Month, fill out the form at the bottom, making it super easy to remember what is needed to reach this goal. If you are a member of the Bishopric, Elders Quorum or Relief Society Presidencies or are the Emergency Preparedness Specialist in your Ward, please put in your information so we can communicate better as we strive to reach this goal for our Stake.

To prevent overwhelming the Home Storage Center, we have created the following charts below that we recommend people in each Ward follow to reach these goals. Members would go to the Home Storage Center and buy the items for that Month on a date they decide. This way the Center won't run out of supplies all at once.

MESSAGE FROM THE FIRST PRESIDENCY

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Our Heavenly Father created this beautiful earth, with all its abundance, for our benefit and use. His purpose is to provide for our needs as we walk in faith and obedience. He has lovingly commanded us to “prepare every needful thing” (see D&C 109:8) so that, should adversity come, we may care for ourselves and our neighbors and support bishops as they care for others.

We encourage Church members worldwide to prepare for adversity in life by having a basic supply of food and water and some money in savings.

We ask that you be wise as you store food and water and build your savings. Do not go to extremes; it is not prudent, for example, to go into debt to establish your food storage all at once. With careful planning, you can, over time, establish a home storage supply and a financial reserve.

We realize that some of you may not have financial resources or space for such storage. Some of you may be prohibited by law from storing large amounts of food. We encourage you to store as much as circumstances allow. May the Lord bless you in your home storage efforts.

The First Presidency

Come, ye thankful people, come;

Raise the song of harvest home.

All is safely gathered in

Ere the winter storms begin.

God, our Maker, doth provide

For our wants to be supplied.

Come to God’s own temple, come;

Raise the song of harvest home.
